Moncler was founded in 1952 and has since designed collections used by celebrities and people around the world. With its start in the mecca of the fashion world, Italy, Moncler has developed and become a world leader with its designs such as the GUI vest & Maya jacket.
Moncler is short for Monstier-de-Clermont, a village in the mountains near Grenoble in France. The first jackets were meant to protect workers from the cold, the jackets were worn over the workers' overalls while they worked.
The first to see Moncler's potential was the French Lionel Terray. The result was Moncler pour Lionel Terry.
In 2003, Moncler was acquired by the Italian entrepreneur Remo Ruffini who introduced the strategy of the global quilted jacket.
In 2020, Moncler bought the well-known brand Stone Island.
